Salem Mission Neighborhood Advisory Committee
DRAFT Minutes - November 9, 2009

Mark Cote presented the board with the intake check list to show committee members what information the mission requires before a client can be taken in. Each client is assigned a Case Manager and the Salem Police run a background check. There is also random drug testing done.

Mr Alveraz  15 Pratt St spoke about public drinking in the High St playground. He also mentioned that a streetlight was out and it may help to deter people from using the park for loitering.

JuliePottier stated that trash was being brought in from all side of the neighborhood.

Jeff Cox talked about the nip bottles around the park and said he would like to see more street sweeping in the neighborhood. Jeff expressed concern about the density of a campus would have on the neighborhood.

Jessica Hebert suggested that the use of surveillance cameras be looked into. Jessica also spoke about building on top of rec hall to save the religious aspect of the church. Jessica questioned that the Mission was privately owned but accepted public funds. Mark Cote said that the Salem Mission was 70% private and 30% public and that there hope was to be 100% private.

Mary Beth Bainbridge asked  Mark Cote several questions about the Mission. How many people they feed? What time the meals were served? Where they got there food donations from? What the long range plans for the Mission were? Without going into to much detail Mark Cote answered all of the questions.

I am sorry for the late response of the minutes of this meeting I am sure I did not cover everything but we can take it up at the next meeting. Look forward to seeing everyone.
